Jeremiah 29:11 Bracelet (A Guide to Bible Verse Bracelets)

Posted on 16 October 2018

Meaningful jewelry can be hard to find for a variety of reasons. It is not easy to come by a piece of jewelry that holds value across time, places and events. For a piece of jewelry to be significant to you, what does it have to say or convey?

When we think of our favorite piece of jewelry, what makes it meaningful? What gives it real value? Are you overcome with emotion when you put on a specific pair of earrings, a bracelet or a necklace? Think of your wedding ring, or the trip you took to Italy where you found a beautiful necklace, or your graduation from college when you were given a gorgeous bracelet from your Grandfather. Jewelry gains value not simply because it is jewelry, but because it carries with it a memory, an emotion or a motivation.

A Jeremiah 29:11 bracelet is one such example:

Every time you look at it, you feel comfort and at peace. Maybe you are reminded of your favorite aunt who gave it to you, or a place that puts you at ease, like your church or home. Perhaps you are filled with joy each time you see it because it reminds you that you are not alone. The simple Jeremiah 29:11 bracelet can motivate you to take charge of your life and to be the person that you want to be.

Jewelry can become extraordinarily important to us based on who gave it to us, who designed it, the time and place it was given to you, or its message and/or symbolism. A Jeremiah 29 verse 11 bracelet can fit all those categories!

Here’s why:

  • Whether you are looking for meaningful jewelry for friends or for family, the gift of a Jeremiah 29:11 bracelet will carry value because it was given by you. Let’s pretend that you are looking for meaningful jewelry for girlfriend right now. When you give a gift to someone else, it almost doesn’t matter what it is! The fact that you went out of your way to find a gift that you thought would be valuable to the receiver results in almost unconscious acceptance from your girlfriend or mother or best friend or whoever it is! Anthropologists have studied this and they’ve found that it is human nature to accept gifts as a part of establishing a social relationship or continuing a preexisting one. Now, this is not to convince you to get them just anything! Because, more often than not, jewelry with meaningful messages will probably hold more value than something you don’t put much thought into.
  • Consider also the piece’s maker. Jewelry becomes exponentially more meaningful when we have a relationship with the people who designed and created it for us. This is one of our values and goals here at Gracefully Made Jewelry -- we want to get to know our customers and share with them the process of making a piece of jewelry specifically for them. This is also why we make a Jeremiah 29:11 bracelet!
  • The time and location you give a gift can also classify the bracelet or necklace as meaningful jewelry. Imagine giving an elegant bracelet to your daughter at her high school graduation. Or, think about how special it will feel to randomly give your partner a necklace during a spontaneous road trip! There are a lot of different occasions and milestones in our lives that hold value for us, like moving in to our first solo apartment, graduating from college and getting our first full-time job, getting married, having a child, or starting a company! Those are all pretty standard though, and maybe you’re an out-of-the-box kind of person. That’s alright, we have milestones for you, too: getting your first cat as a single crazy cat lady, your first skydiving experience, the first time you asked for that raise (because you’re worth it), or the first time you (and not your parents!) bought your own plane tickets home. Here are some other unconventional milestones you should celebrate with bible verse bracelets! These are all equally important milestones and are equally deserving of meaningful jewelry gifts to commemorate the occasion. Whether you just had a baby or you just rescued your 7th cat, a Jeremiah 29 verse 11 bracelet can keep you grounded and remind you of what is important in your life.
  • This one seems obvious, but jewelry with meaningful messages make for valuable gifts. Sometimes, we overthink the message or symbolism of a gift because we want to make sure we get something of value for the recipient. While there are a lot of different meaningful gifts we could get, like inspirational necklaces, sometimes the perfect piece of meaningful jewelry is a bible verse bracelet. Specifically, a Jeremiah 29:11 bracelet can have a variety of different meanings for the person you are getting the gift for. Check out why below!

What is Jeremiah 29:11?

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
(New International Version, NIV)

A lot of us have probably encountered this bible verse in some way before in our lives. We’ve seen it on coffee mugs, greeting cards, stitched into pillows, or perhaps our best friend has it on a bracelet. Some of us simply know it as a commonly quoted bible verse, and others of us can recite the lines before and after and give us a rundown of the verse’s significance and common interpretations. Regardless, bible verse Jeremiah 29 11 is a component of our culture and generally understood as an encouragement, like “all will be well.”

This interpretation is very valuable and valid. We all need a little encouragement every once in a while, and what better way to motivate than with bible verse bracelets? However, it is important to understand that there can be different interpretations and understandings of a bible verse. If that’s the case, then what is Jeremiah 29:11? What does it mean?

Let’s dive into this:

  • As mentioned above, a very commonplace and modern interpretation of Jeremiah 29 verse 11 is: God has a plan for me, so whatever suffering I am going through right now will come to an end soon and then I will flourish! It is an encouragement, a validation, a motivation to keep going. For some, this bible verse describes resilience. We will all experience misfortune or change in our lives, and these changes can be overwhelming without the ability to see the larger picture. Jeremiah 29:11 encourages us that everything will end up well, that the suffering will end because there is a purpose and a plan for us that will become known to us soon.
  • Other interpretations suggest that Jeremiah 29:11 has nothing to do with escaping suffering, but instead promotes learning to thrive despite suffering. When placing Jeremiah 29:11 back into the context that it was written, some biblical scholars argue the context determines the interpretation. Basically, the Israelites were in exile as a punishment from God for being disobedient. The false prophet, Hananiah, boldly proclaimed that God was going to free Israel from Babylon in 2 years. (Spoiler alert: this doesn’t happen.) Then, the prophet Jeremiah discredits Hananiah’s lie and relates God’s words to the captive Israelites in Babylon. In the lines before Jeremiah 29:11, God instructs the Israelites to “Seek the welfare of the city I have deported you to” (Jeremiah 29:7). God isn’t magically getting rid of the Israelites’ problems. Instead, He tells them to stay and pray for the city that has taken them captive. This interpretation claims that God is telling them their suffering must continue, not that it’s going to end.

But why would God want us to suffer?

Excellent question! For the purposes of having Jeremiah 29:11 inscribed on a bracelet, it could mean that He knows you are strong enough to handle it. Or, that suffering is an integral part of humanity and its experience should be valued rather than feared. Suffering can teach us who we are and serve to remind us that there is a lot that we have the ability to overcome.

There are numerous papers, books and scholars dedicated to answering this question. We won’t dwell on these interpretations any longer -- we’ll let you wander the web in search of answers on your own time! We wanted to give you a little background regarding the general significance of the Jeremiah 29:11 bracelet to make your search for meaningful jewelry gifts and jewelry with meaningful messages a little easier. Hopefully, you are now solidly set on a Jeremiah 29:11 bracelet as a meaningful jewelry gift for your best friend or daughter or yourself!
